Classical and Modern Collection
MBH Bank Collection
The core of the MBH Bank Collection consists of nearly 600 pieces, focusing on classical, modern, and contemporary artworks. Large, impressive and artistically significant works form the backbone of the collection, representing iconic pieces in Hungarian art history by classical artists such as Bertalan Székely and Miklós Barabás, modern creators like József Rippl-Rónai and József Egry, and renowned contemporary artists including István ef Zámbó and Tamás Hencze. The Collection, managed by the MBH Bank Art Foundation, is expanding in a contemporary direction. Our aim is to shape a collection based on significant Hungarian artists while also acquiring works by key international artists, such as Johan Tahon and Philip-Lorca diCorcia. We prioritize fostering a progressive identity for contemporary works, which is why incorporating young artists remains a key focus. We strive to establish a diverse image in terms of genres and materials; therefore, alongside our existing emphasis on oil-on-canvas paintings, the Collection is expanding to include works in various media—photography, mixed techniques, installations, sculpture, and media art. The acquisition process is complex, with artworks entering through art scholarships, residency grants, as well as purchases from the primary market.
