What might Dürer, Rembrandt and, 500 years later, contemporary artists such as Attila Szűcs and Philip-Lorca diCorcia have to say about one of the deepest questions of human existence: creation? HAB’s exhibition, which opened in early October, explores this theme through a dialogue between Old Masters and contemporary artists. Budapest’s new art centre is hosting a major exhibition that explores perhaps one of the most important questions of our time: what it means to create, how to renew ourselves in a challenging world, can we learn from the old masters and what contemporary art shows us about creation from a personal, social and spiritual perspective?

The exhibition is based on a dialogue between the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, cutting-edge artists from Hungarian contemporary galleries and international artists represented by the David Zwirner Gallery. In the figurative works, the artists explore the question of the power of existence, sometimes quite obviously, sometimes covertly. In addition to the topical issue, the material spans the ages, from Dürer to Rembrandt, through the works of Attila Szűcs, and Philip-Lorca DiCorcia’s photography guides us in a multifaceted exploration of the dynamic mystery of existence.
